Alright let's do this! Some amazing things happened this week!! I probably say that every week haha but I'm serious. So first, last monday night we had family night with the cutest couple and their five year old twins! The dad is not a member but is an awesome dad so we had a little game night for family night with them outside by the campfire! I love campfires in Bermuda!!!! He came to the primary program on Sunday so that's a big start!! We also had 3 other investigators at church on sunday!! The most I've ever had on my mission!!! And they are pretty solid. Let me explain... Jason and Kiwana Brown and their 4 adorable children live a pretty awesome life. They love each other and they love their family. Kiwana works for ArtMel's, the fish shop that the Smith family in our branch owns. She was talking with Sister Smith about families and was very intrigued with idea that her family could be united eternally.  So we met with her family last week a long with her neighbor OMarla who is 22 and has a cute 5 year old with one on the way like any day. They had SO many questions about temples and it was just awesome to really feel the Spirit guide the lesson and to see it touch their hearts. I am SO excited that I get to see this family grow closer together. It's a true blessing to know our family WILL be forever. Also, we visited with Jahmella, the recent convert, and she told us of a few experiences she has had the past few weeks that are just incredible!!! I can't even explain them. She literally has nothing and is learning to just have faith that the Lord will provide. Her faith is growing tremendously that it just makes me pumped!!! I love it! Also this week we met with the cutest little old lady from Italy! She is 93 and volunteers at the hospital and at the Barn (the DI place) every week. She doesn't stop working haha She is lovely:) I know she will join the church in the spirit world:) Oh my goodness I almost forgot!!! So to be more involved with the branch members we decided to go and support 3 of the primary girls at their futbol games last week!! Man I have missed soccer! haha even though they were 10 year olds I just loved watching it ha It was cool too because as we were watching we were talking with a lady sitting by us and she turned out to be a less active who hasn't come to church for years!!! the Lord is putting people in our paths in miraculous ways. Alright I may have reached my limit. To close I will bear my testimony of the reality of the Savior's life. I know He lived and lives still. I know He is the way to eternal life. His life is the life we should strive to follow. He is compassionate, charitable, merciful, and forgiving. He is real. I hope and pray you can feel His love surround you. I love you!!!!

PGA TOUR!!!!!!!!                                              Sept. 14th 2013

Well hello there everyone!!! What a lovely day it is here in paradise:)  I don't want to make you envious but it's about 80+ degrees and the sun is still shining bright. :) It definitely does not feel like October haha
So! This week was great! I decided to make this email a little different just for fun! Hope you don't mind:) 3 things I learned this week are to.... Pray always, Give thanks, and Attitude is everything!
1. Pray always... That's what the scriptures say right?? Well why do you think they say that? Because if we want to escape temptation, if we want to follow the Spirit, if we want help in our trials, we need to pray!! I have been trying to have a prayer in my heart continually and it's been amazing how happy it makes me. I just love being able to communicate with my Father in Heaven 24/7. I know with all my heart God hears and answers prayers. We just have to be patient sometimes:)
2. Give thanks!  Every night Sister McKee and I say one thing we are grateful for and it's been awesome to just change my heart into a heart of gratitude. Being grateful for what we have and especially for the wonderful gospel helps us be more humble. I want to challenge you to think of the blessings you have been given and to thank Heavenly Father for them. Because I promise you, you have been given so much more than you think. It is sad to see how much people sacrifice and live without here. There are some fancy rich people here but the majority of the people live in humble circumstances. One or two bedrooms at the most. No TV's, XBOXs, computers, etc. And many people give the church, especially the missionaries, so much. Branch members will literally come up to us at church and say "I have food for you in the fridge" and then we go and there are bags of rolls and bread and bananas and fish and wow I am just so thankful.
3. Attitude is everything!! Okay so remember my friend from last week? Trina?? Ya so she wanted to meet with us again and as we talked with her about her anxiety and how the Atonement will help her it just made me realize how important our attitude is. If we don't have the right attitude, we will be missing out on the purpose of what we are doing. And having a positive attitude will help our faith increase that God's plan for us is worth every struggle and trial. So just be happy!! Is that too much to ask for?! :) Be happy and faithful and positive and life will start looking more like the bermuda sunset :) aka beautiful:):)

Okay so I will just close with an awesome story about a really cool lady we met last week!! Her name is Tisha and she is working for a home health company. We started talking to her at a bus stop by our house and she asked tons of questions about what we do. She says we are nuns for 18 months haha not funny. we are way better ;) but anyway! She really liked us and told us to call her on saturday to remind her about church so Sister McKee and I made up a song for her and she loved it haha she said if it wasn't for our phone call she wouldn't have come. BUT she came!!! with her husband!!! COOL HUH?!? They actually knew a few members which was awesome and they said they are going to come back next week which will be perfect because it's the primary program! And she wants to see us during the week. I am so excited to spend some time with her. She is a blast. She really wants me to move here after my mission because she said I can make anywhere from 50-150 dollars an hour as a nurse haha so tempting... so tempting... but I am just going to stick that in the back of my mind and worry about it later because right now I have work to do for the Lord:) We are so busy and so tired and yet I am so happy it doesn't really make sense. But I think I may have wrote too much so I will stop haha love you all! Don't forget to pray! Give thanks! and Have an AWESOME attitude!!!
Much Love!!
Love, Sister Meyer
P.S. the other reason today's title is P.G.A. happens to be because we went to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf this morning at the most beautiful golf course in the world! haha like I said, members are so giving:)
and Don't worry Mitch, I took pictures of Adam Scott for you:):) Love you!!!!!!

BERMUDA STORMS!!!                     Sept. 30th 2013

What a stormy, rainy, windy week in paradise! It is the season of storms and man it's awesome! This morning we woke up with lightning that literally covers the whole sky. And we had a few days last week that just poured on us! It makes missionary work a little difficult because the buses don't run when it gets too stormy and walking in the rain is fun but not very productive haha But we had a great week! We had a relief society activity on Saturday and guess what we did?? ZUMBA!!! SO FUN! The girl who taught it was a ball of energy and the 5 members that came were so fun to watch haha I just love this branch. They are small but so special. Tuesdays we help at a donation center (just like the DI) and we get to sort through tons of clothes. We can take anything that we want so I am going to have a lot of fun and cute Bermudian clothes haha I love it! We were able to meet with a recent convert and her two daughters and one of them, Daeshonae, told her mom she wants to be baptized! So we are going to see her every week and hopefully help her be baptized! Leon and Shawn, the couple I told you about last week that gives us ginger beer (it's not against the word of wisdom haha don't worry;)) finally came to church!! The elders had a really powerful lesson with them last week and I am looking forward to meeting with them this week to keep them progressing.
I am really enjoying how friendly people are here and how easy it is to start a conversation. Even if the people I meet don't come to church or make any progress, I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are watching over and will guide these people to the truth when they are ready. I have been studying and thinking a lot about my relationship with Heavenly Father. If you think about it, the way any relationship is formed is through communication, time, and service. When we communicate with our Heavenly Father through sincere prayer and study we are able to learn from him. When we spend time with Him in the temple or in the scriptures or even just in our homes we are able to feel Him near. And when we serve Him through obedience and loving others we are able to become more like Him. I am so grateful for all that He has given me. I know we all have been blessed with the gospel and now it is our turn to bless the lives of others! So do it!!! :)
I love you all!! Have a great week and ENJOY CONFERENCE!!! I am SUPER stoked to watch it in the humble church with the wonderful members :) I will be thinking and praying for you to receive answers to your prayers. Love you :)

Good Afternoon! I feel like I am on a whole different mission now haha Bermuda is INCREDIBLE! Every morning I look out over the ocean and see the beautiful sunrise and then I get to enjoy the warm weather, cool ocean breeze, and the friendly people! I can't even begin to explain it. Pretty much it's paradise haha

Missionary work is different here mainly because there are LOTS of churches and most everyone knows the Mormon church because it's right next to Crystal Caves. BUT! The branch is small, smiley, and super! They are all very nice and they LOVE the missionaries! We get to help out in Primary for an hour and the kids are so cute!! I love it! Primary is just the best place to be :)

As far as missionary work goes we are working with a couple who have been meeting with missionaries for almost 8 years but have just recently began to take the discussions. They are super nice and give us Ginger Beer every time haha don't panic! It's pretty good haha We are hoping to keep visiting with them and help them realize that they don't have to be perfect to be baptized. We also visit with a recent convert who is AMAZING! Jahmella is so strong and even though she has lots of temptations and people trying to tear her down she wants to do what is right. I will for sure be telling you more about her while I am here :)

So a few funny stories... we tried passion fruit a few days ago and it was delicious! This week we bought a duck and we are going to try to cook it ha! it's 3 weeks old so it was on sale! And to be honest, I will buy anything when it is on sale because prices here are SO high!! It's nuts! We also walk around with the Ukelele and sing to people. One night we were waiting for a bus, playing the Ukelele and we met a drunk guy who told us he was a celebrity so then Sis McKee started telling him that he should come to church and bring wild chickens (they have chickens and lizards and frogs everywhere) to sacrifice haha we have fun :)

But I have to go so I hope you are all doing well and read Alma 29 this week! Missionary work can be soo full of joy! I love it!

I can honestly say I have thought about this past week for 2 months and now that it has come and gone I don't know what to do haha it was SO full of love and laughter and goodbyes that I'm not sure what to write!!!

We had a great last district meeting on Tuesday! So sad to leave the great missionaries here. Then we went to visit Pat and Sade and their awesome family. Damien opened the door and said his grandma was sick and Sade was gone but that he would talk to us if we wanted! Of course!! I would much rather talk with an 8 year old haha He is such a stud. He told us all about cowboys and indians, football, how he took a kid out, his muscles, pretty much anything haha and then we somehow tied it all into Nephi buliding a ship and Sade came home! Unfortunately she was really worked up and stressed about things so she told us to come back. We weren't able to meet with them again because everytime we came back she was just leaving the house or working. She just got a job and will be working saturdays and sundays...BUT we are not losing hope in them! We are going to try to visit them tonight.
Wednesday we got a call from our mission president asking SIster Casperson to train another visa waiter!!! COOL! So Thursday we drove to Queens and talked with a bunch of missionaries while she had a meeting with all of the trainers! Then on Friday night we got another phone call from president saying her trainee was reassigned so she wouldn't be training anymore....that pretty much shows how crazy our week was ha so many unexpected twists and turns and yet we were always led to someone we could talk to about the gospel. It was great!
Friday we had the wonderful Plan of Salvation fireside at the Spanish ward. It was incredible to hear the beautiful Spanish language and especially to feel the strong spirit of music. I LOVE MUSIC!! It can touch so many hearts. I understood very little but I felt so much.
Saturday we had a lesson with a family that the elders are teaching! They asked if we would be willing to help teach the kids because they cause a lot of distraction when they try to teach the parents ha so we did! It was NUTS!!! The kids are cute, and we were able to teach them "head shoulders knees and toes" and showed pictures of Christ and did everything we could to keep them from jumping over us, on us, and all around us haha we were exhausted but that's nothing new :)
Also on saturday...a member feed us for every meal haha bishops breakfast/correlation, lunch with a sweet Filipino who is the #1 Visiting Teacher of all time, and dinner with 2 members and one less active. What a treat. So many great members here that I will miss. Yesterday was a sad day saying goodbye. I don't know what else to say about it haha I didn't like it very much. But I am SUPER excited for Bermuda!
Also... our dear friend Jessica didn't come to church yesterday :( First time in 3 months that she has missed church. And she is suppose to be baptized next week!!! AH! There is a lot going on with her baptism because another investigator of the Elders is planning on being baptized and she doesn't really want to share her day so she said she would wait until October. NO! I feel bad leaving at such a crazy time. All I know is that everything will work out. It always does!!! The Lord is perfect and His plan for us if perfect, even though we are far far far from perfect. He will lead us every step by His light. And how do we receive His light? Well if we study about Him, study His words (including the wonderful Ensign and New Era!!), and ask for His help, He promises to be with us, comfort us, strengthen and guide us. I know He lives. He loves me and He loves YOU all so much!!! Don't ever forget it :)
I love you and pray for you daily. I know God will be with you and I know it because He is with me :) Even though we may be in Bermuda, Staten Island, or Utah :)

One more week in Staten Island                    Sept. 9th

Holy crow I can't believe it. One more week in Staten Island?? I just doesn't seem real. And yet, it's so wonderful I am a little nervous to leave!!! The work is moving forward so much it's incredible!!! I won't have much to say since I just emailed a few days ago but I will update you a little....
We were able to meet with Jane, the one whose daughter is a missionary, and she is so ready and in need of the gospel. We just need to teach her haha she goes into the city a few times a week for treatments regarding her health so it's been a little difficult but she keeps saying "God is answering my prayers and I know He wants me to meet with you for a reason" Yep, He does haha So we will hopefully meet with her again this week once she has recovered.
Do you remember Puna?! She was the first person I ever met in this ward and the first lesson I ever taught as a missionary! When I met her she was less active, going to St. Johns, and a recent convert of about 3 years. She went home for the summer but now she is back at school, waiting for her mission call to come anytime!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT?! She is so cool! I am so excited for her. Maybe she and Michelle will meet at the MTC haha that would be awesome.
Okay so the best part about this entire week was Jessica!!!! Last week I told you she is planning on being baptized. Well that wasn't a for sure thing haha until!... Friday night she called us just to talk and said she is ready and sure she wants to be baptized on the 22nd!!! SHe has already started inviting people and knows what she wants her program to look like haha on sunday we met with her and when someone came in the room to offer her a ride home she said "sorry but this is a very important meeting about my big day, i will just take the bus" and then we went over the baptismal interview questions and she bore the most beautiful testimony about Joseph Smith, the changes she has made in her life like not scheduling work appointments on sundays anymore and putting her mistakes in the past and man I could just go on forever with how ready she is for baptism. It's going to be a wonderful day.
Well I hate to go but I must. So just remember "life is to be enjoyed, not just endured" and "press forward with a steadfastness in Christ." THe Atonement is for everyONE and everyTHING. I know it!! I love it!! I love you all!!!!!!

September 4th 2013

Hello!!!
I have to apologize in advance... this letter is going to be short because we weren't able to write on labor day and we only have an hour to write today BUT the work is still going tremendously well and I am SO happy to be here!!! At church on sunday I teared up so many times thinking I would be leaving the wonderful people here in Staten Island. I just love it!  Anyway.... this past week was so full of amazing blessings and fun adventures!! So a less active (who is also the leader of a motorcycle gang...she's pretty cool ha) had a niece that passed away and we decided to go with a member of our ward to support her. The funeral was in Hicksville which is in Long Island!  I was shocked to see how much Long Island is like Utah! very country feel. Anyway, it was a very sad event but I am so grateful to be a representative of the Lord in helping people understand that death is not the end!!!! We also had a GREAT lesson with Pat and her confusing but amazing family! We have been praying to be able to meet with Victoria's mom and somehow find out how they are all related and to talk with just Pat to make sure she understands what this gospel can do for her and her family.. Well, when we showed up to the lesson Victoria and Sade said they were running to the store so for about 5 minutes we were able to talk with Pat, then Lisa came out and started talking with us and it turns out Lisa is Pat's caretaker, Victoria's mom, and Sade's mother-in-law! hahaha So confusing but SO amazing to see the lord answer our prayers and allow us to teach and invite all of these wonderful sisters to come closer to Christ in their own specific need. They are great and I can't wait to talk to them again! We were about to leave and Sade said "hey where's my book of mormon? I want one!" um... okay! haha and they said Damien has been reading out of the children's version (which is SO much easier to remember :)) and he can actually understand the words better than other books! Well that's because it's the word of God. haha but seriously, I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God. As I read it daily I feel the illuminating light that Alma talks about in ch 5.  I know the joy of the Atonement can be ours as we humbly ask for the Lords help and obey His commandments. We were blessed to go to the temple yesterday and oh what joy I felt sitting in the most peaceful and quite place in New York. It's incredible how much knowledge we can receive when we attend. I know Heavenly Father's plan is perfect. I know we can only be saved through Jesus Christ. I know that Christ lives. I am SO thankful for the blessings of temples and covenants that we can make there. Speaking of covenants.... Sami Rosa Jr was baptized on sunday and Jessica and Jane attended!!! Jane enjoyed it and is planning on coming to church next week! Jessica said "I feel like baptism is coming soon for me" and then said "wait! who's going to baptize me!" Sister Howard told her to look around and choose any man in the room haha she pointed towards the ward mission leader and then asked him if he would baptize her!!!! She is planning to be baptized on September 22!!!! It is going to be AMAZING!! (even though I won't be here...) I am so excited for her. Well I have to go but I love you all and want you to know that I pray for you and think of you often!! You are the reason I am serving. Thank you and may God be with you :)

I feel like I have so much to share with you today! I just hope it all comes out right!  This week was wonderful. I enjoyed learning from the Spirit about faith, hope, and charity.
First, let's begin with faith. I believe we can learn something about faith everyday. Because everyday is a test of our faith! At district meeting last week one of the Elders gave a great workshop on falling into the arms of the Atonement. It takes faith to turn everything over to the Lord because you aren't always going to see a direct result from it. But i realized this week that although I may not see the results from playing soccer in the park or writing mormon.org with chalk by bus stops, or singing hymns at the Ferry terminal, I can have faith that the Lord is in charge of this work and His work will not be hindered. "be not afraid, only believe" became one of my favorite phrases to think of this week. I never realized how many times I doubt or worry about things but now I know that I need to be of good cheer and have faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know the Atonement is real. It strengthens my weaknesses, comforts my fears, and cleanses me from my mistakes. So I encourage you all to have faith in Jesus Christ and in His Atonement! That is the first principle we can apply as we strive to draw closer to our Savior.

Okay so next is Hope! And Hope to me stands for Happiness, Optimism, Patiently persevering, and Enduring! I received a testimony of hope as I realized that everyday is not always going to go as planned but the Lord's plans are far greater than ours. For instance, we picked up a member from Sri Lanka and wanted to go visit Taru at work!  (she's the Sri Lankan sweetheart that works at Dunkin Donuts) Little did we know Dunkin Donuts would be busy at 2 but it was and the manager was upset about something (she was speaking in Singalese so I'm not sure what she was saying haha) but we simply said Hi to Taru and then left. Then we decided to stop by Julie's house just to see if she was home and it turns out she had decided to take off work that day and invited us into her lovely porch/greenhouse thing ha Julie is a police officer who is also staring an infused olive oil company and is divorced with 3 kids. The elders knocked on her door about 2 months ago and then my companions visited with her last time I was on exchanges so this was technically our first lesson with her but it went so well! We really did nothing and yet we were able to share our testimonies of the restoration, a living prophet, and the book of mormon. And even though the member who came with us is kind of shy and has a really thick accent, she bore one of the sweetest testimonies. It was incredible to see the way the Lord works through each of us; missionary, member, or investigator.  Another example of hope is Jane Scollan. This may get confusing so bear with me haha Jane's daughter Bree is a missionary in Lousiana. She was living with a family in Washington and was in Sister Caspersons ward!  So Bre joined the church about 2 years ago while she was living with this family and then decided to go on a mission. Jane, has been through a lot. She is having health problems and lives in a not so good area some people call the "projects" haha But anyway, a few weeks ago Sister Capseron's mom told her that she should try looking up Bre's mom! So we tried once and we couldn't get into the building. So two weeks ago we tried again and luckily the door was open but her apt number wasn't on her door so we weren't sure if it was her house or not and we were a little nervous to knock on a random door in the projects. Just then Jane walks out of another door to take out the garbage and we asked her if she knew a Ms. Scollan. She happily told us it was her and then saw that we were missionaries and was so excited to see us! So last week we met her at a buffet and had an amazing discussion with her. The part of the story that we didnt' know was that Jane has been interested in the church because of her daughter's mission. She watched two videos recently about the gift of eternal life and has been praying to know what that is and how to get it. She said she had just finished praying one day when she felt like she needed to take out the garbage.... and there we were, put in her path. Talk about miracle!! She asked us about what she needed to do so she could see her daughter be married. We were stunned. Then she asked us if we would be willing to come over to her house and teach her about the church and if she feels like it's right she will be baptized. We honestly did nothing and yet I feel so full of hope for Jane. I am so excited to be an instrument in the Lord's hands.

Sorry this email is so long!! But Charity is the most important of all. I learned the importance of charity this week through a few challenges that turned into great learning opportunities. I won't go into great detail but let's just say our Relief Society is struggling with charity... But the only way we can truly teach someone about charity is to show it! And that is my goal as I complete the last 3 weeks here in Staten Island: To show charity to every single member of this ward and every person on this island!!!! On Tuesday I felt like I was missing something because even though good things were happening like Damien telling us he didn't need to ask God to be baptized he would just do it (what a stud) I was having a hard time being hopeful. So that evening as I was praying the phrase "charity never fails" kept coming to mind. That was it! I had completely forgotten about charity. The next day Sister Howard gave me the talk "Forget Me Not" by Elder Uchdtorf and I believe that that talk was exactly what I needed. I had forgotten a few key principles about life! READ THAT TALK!!! I think it may have improved my entire attitude about life.  I love it. Especially because it all comes back to the Savior. Everything I am doing is for my Savior because this is HIS work. I am so grateful that He is allowing me to learn and grow so much.

Well I think that is enough for this week!  Never forget to shine your light! I love you and pray for you daily. You are all choice blessings to me and I thank my Heavenly Father for blessing me with so many wonderful examples.
Good luck at school!!!
Love, Sister Meyer
